On Saturday, June 24 and Sunday, June 25, K12 Solar was proud to co-sponsor Destiny Christian Church’s spectacular Celebrate America festival, honoring our nation and its veterans. An estimated 30,000 people from across Northern California annually gather in Rocklin’s Twin Oaks Park to enjoy this free, patriotic, community celebration.
This year, our K12 Solar team was particularly proud to be able to partner with Destiny, Home Depot, E49 Corporation, and St. Paul Church in Del Paso Heights to provide Tiny Homes, powered by solar, for some local veterans who have become homeless. During each night of Celebrate America, a veteran was welcomed onstage and surprised with the key to his very own, free Tiny Home.
K12 Solar has had the privilege of bringing solar to Destiny Christian Church, one of the largest and most prominent churches in the Sacramento region, nestled off Highway 65 in Rocklin, California. Along with serving its thousands of members, Destiny has a strong focus on serving its community. A primary reason why Destiny’s solar system is so massive – one megawatt! – is because along with its concert hall-sized sanctuary, Destiny’s campus includes a public community center with a cafe, fitness center, teen center, and kids’ center where children can receive homework assistance, participate in art and music, and more.
For over seven years, Destiny of Rocklin has gifted the local community with its Celebrate America festival, which includes food vendors, a Kid Zone with inflatables and carnival games, informational booths for nonprofits and local businesses, a line-up of patriotic musical performances, stirring reenactments of moments in our nation’s history, and a tribute to our nations’ veterans – including Navy Seals jumping in by parachute and all attending veterans gathering together onstage. Each evening culminated with a spectacular fireworks display seen for miles around.
As the Community Development Director for K12 Solar, I was proud to be there at our booth while our COO, Dean Marks represented our entire K12 team on stage. Scott Byrditsky, Community Development Director of Destiny Church, and Michelle Coleman, worked so hard behind the scenes to make the event a huge success, and they guided our team through the details of being a sponsor.
Our K12 Solar team cherishes its friendship and partnership with Destiny. Their one-megawatt solar system, via virtual net metering from Pacific Gas & Electric, will provide nearly all of the power for not only the church, but also its community center and attached leased buildings.
We met many great people at the Celebrate America event and were proud to showcase our work via drone imagery at our booth. Enjoy a bird’s eye view of Destiny’s solar system below!
